Emily Brown is not giving her old gray rabbit, Stanley, to anyone, not even the queen. When bribery fails, the queen sends special commandos to steal Stanley while Emily is sleeping. In the morning Emily reclaims Stanley at the palace and teaches the queen how to make a brand-new teddy bear her own lovable toy. The text gives a matter-of-fact telling of this story of a child’s extreme loyalty to a favorite toy, while the comic detailing of the mixed-media illustrations build on the fact that many aspects of the story are outrageously absurd . ca
