Book Descriptions
for One True Bear by Ted Dewan
From The United States Board on Books for Young People (USBBY)
Darcy Brewster is a bear cub willing to test his stuffing against the world’s most difficult boy, Damian. Many brave bears have failed in their attempts to tame Damian. Eventually, Darcy convinces the boy to play more gently when he explains that without arms, a bear can’t hold him and banish bad dreams. Throughout, Damian pedals an ambulance, carries a medical kit, and stitches Darcy’s injuries. As with The Velveteen Rabbit, Darcy is finally abandoned under the bed until an adult Damian returns with another special task for a very brave bear. An author’s note indicates that additional draw ings were contributed by children . lmp

From the Publisher
In the tradition of The Velveteen Rabbit, with adorable classic art, comes the story of Darcy Brewster, one brave teddy-bear cub, who accepts a real challenge—to be a true friend to Damian, a boy who has a long history of destroying his toys. Ready, willing, and able to love and comfort Damian, even if it means putting his own fur on the line, Darcy manages to capture Damian's heart and imagination, as well as that of any reader.
